NEMESIS is a general-purpose retrieval model for extracting information about planetary atmospheres, looking at the electromagnetic spectra observed through remote observations.
It was originally developed to interpret observations of Saturn and Titan from the composite infrared spectrometer on board the NASA Cassini spacecraft, but constructed to be generally applicable to any planetary atmosphere in a variety of observing geometries, like nadir, limb or transit observations of exoplanets.
Since its developtment, NEMESIS has now been successfully applied to the analysis of data from many planetary missions and also ground-based observations.
NEMESIS is currently used by research groups all over the globe, applying it to a variety of situations. The purpose of this workshop is to join efforts within those groups and discuss both the present and future of the NEMESIS project. The main objectives and topics of discussion in the workshop can be summarized in:
- Centralized repository for spectroscopic line data
- Bayesian techniques (Nested Sampling, MCMC)
- Exoplanets/brown-dwarfs retrievals and developments
- Scattering retrievals
- Refractive index retrievals
- Disc-averaging techniques
- Required precision of calculations
